Pastor's Message
Tax-free weekend in Tennessee is the harbinger of a new season. It does not necessarily mean a cooler season but a season with many changes in the lives of many people. It’s not just families with teachers and school-age children, but it affects almost everyone. Back-to-school time means new schedules for the families with children and teachers. It means more traffic for anyone commuting to work (and school zone speed limits). It means less traffic in vacation venues. It means many other things, but I am especially pleased that it means folks are back home, and we will be seeing more of you in worship.
It seems that this summer worship attendance took a bigger hit than usual, so we hope all who traveled had great trips and some restful days. We look forward to the educational and worship opportunities ahead of us. As always, we plan and work diligently to provide classes and services that will help all of us experience God’s presence and to praise God in vibrant ways.
This is a great time to invite unchurched folks to worship, so we hope you will talk with your neighbors, work associates, school friends and others who may not be in church. Tell them about FCUMC. Invite them to visit our website. Even more, offer to pick them up and bring them with you. Let us know how we can help.
We look forward to worshiping with you.
Jim

Ministry Fair and Wednesday Night Dinner
August 24
We are excited to kick off our Wednesday Night programming August 24 with a dinner and ministry fair. Dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a ministry fair. You will have the opportunity to learn about the various ways that we Love God, Experience Christ and Serve People through the ministries of the church. We have a very strong slate of education opportunities this fall and we hope that you will check out a preview of the classes available for you to help you grow in the love and knowledge of God.
Brunch and a Play
Let's go to "Oklahoma." On Saturday August 27, we will fill up the bus and head out for The Cumberland County Playhouse for their performance of Rogers and Hammerstein's classic, "Oklahoma." Plans are to leave church at 8:00 a.m. and return around 5:00 p.m. Brunch will be the ever famous Shoney's Breakfast Bar. Following breakfast, we will travel to the Playhouse for the play. Coming home we will have a fast food stop. Cost is $37.00 for brunch, tickets, transportation, and hospitality. The fellowship and fun is free, but its value is immeasurable. To reserve your seat, call LeRoy Hatcher at 689-5175, ext 111 or register online. Deadline for registering is August 18.
